English rocker Jody Porter, guitarist for Fountains Of Wayne and former frontman of the Belltower, will be doing a physical release of his first solo album, Close To The Sun (Engine Room), this month, although the LP was originally available via iTunes in August 2008. This album is a vast departure from the power pop of Fountains Of Wayne; no “Stacy’s Mom” to be found here, thank god. Of course, it’s heavily guitar driven and very clean, giving the music an almost U2-esque sound, without all the pretension. Porter’s vocals are wonderful and flow so well with the music. First single “Aurora” is a bluesy pop number with some genuine emotion behind it.

Yeah, Piero’s correct. Jody’s not from England. He lived there for four years, but he’s from Charleston, SC, and has lived in New York City for the past twenty years (for the most part). He now splits his time between NYC and LA, neither of which are located in England.
