Blue Roses is the experimental-folk venture of Yorkshire, England, multi-instrumentalist Laura Groves. On her recent self-titled debut LP (on XL), she blends lofty piano lines and fingerpicked acoustic guitar with her distinctive songbird trilling. On “I Am Leaving,” spacey synth harmonies flood over Groves’ delicate acoustic playing: “My town was hidden somewhere in the dark,” she sings, “and a spark ignited my imagination.”
