Lamest. Contest. Ever.

It can’t be fireworks every night, people. We’re not lying when we say that the grand prize for this particular MAGNET newsletter contest is a box of 100 jumbo non-skid paper clips. We ordered too many for the office, and they’re taking up storage space previously reserved for promo copies of your friend’s band’s demo CD. (You know who we’re talking about.)

Here’s the premise: Last week, Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” came on the radio (Halloween-themed playlists being somewhat limited as they are), and the line “Bustin’ makes me feel good” lodged itself in the part of the brain where the Monkees theme song and the incomprehensible verses to Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” reside.

Here’s how you win the paper clips (and maybe some other stuff, we’re not sure): E-mail us the song lyric you find most vexing. Winning tip: There’s a fine line between “vexing” and “annoying.” The music on Coors Light commercials is annoying, but not particularly vexing. Point is, there’s a lyric that’s always given you pause or made you scratch your head and go “huh?” That’s the one we want.

*One entry per person.
*Along with the lyric, please indicate the artist and song title.
*E-mail your entry to newsletter@magnetmagazine.com (lazybones: hit “reply”).
*All entries due Monday, Nov. 10th.

INSIDE MAGNET #61 (NOV/DEC) - IN STORES AND MAILBOXES SOON!

COVER STORY: BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB
Or, as my mother calls them, the Big Black Motorcycle Gang. MAGNET writer Bob Mehr rides sidecar with the L.A. trio during its recent U.S. tour and takes copious notes. Lessons learned: how to sabotage an interview with a mouthy drive-time radio DJ; what to do when your initials are carved into a beached whale; the anthropomorphism of ‘80s TV show “Manimal”; how to be on a major label without sacrificing your integrity or sound. The longest cover story in MAGNET history.

FEATURES
Stuart Murdoch opens up about the brilliant career and not-so-brilliant mistakes made by BELLE & SEBASTIAN. Somewhere between Bowie and Broadway, RUFUS WAINWRIGHT made some wrong turns; but when he finally left the party, he was clutching a powerful album that chronicles his decadence. Meanwhile, MAGNET lets the alternative ‘80s strike back: Our study guide to COLLEGE ROCK outlines a pre-alternative decade during which R.E.M. was king, college radio was staffed by princes and MTV wasn’t afraid to play the fool. Subjects include Miracle Legion, Love Tractor, Del Fuegos, Connells, Guadalcanal Diary and Vulgar Boatmen.

PLUS
Sleater-Kinney’s tour diary; Teenage Fanclub career retrospective; and feature stories on Death Cab For Cutie, Randy Newman, Rachel’s, Fire Theft, Glen Campbell, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Rosebuds, Azure Ray, Sleepy Jackson, Okkervil River and Pedal Steel Transmission.

ALBUM REVIEWS
Big Star, David Bowie, East River Pipe, Guided By Voices, Handsome Family, High Llamas, Matmos, Minders, Iggy Pop, Quasi, Shins, Strokes, Joe Strummer, Vue, Paul Westerberg and more.
