From The Desk Of El Perro Del Mar: Amanda Gerell

A visit to a musical instrument museum with her toddler son inspired El Perro del Mar’s Sarah Assbring to recalibrate her pop sensibilities and work on what would become KoKoro. It was a “please-touch” museum where they could play the instruments, and Assbring fell in love with the percussion used in Indonesian gamelan music, and with harps from Asia and Africa. KoKoro looks outward, both musically and lyrically, to the world, and rather than a tender clinch, it’s a wholehearted bear hug of global pop sounds. Assbring will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new feature on her.

Assbring: Amanda Gerell is a young fashion designer who’s just graduated from the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås, Sweden. She’s this amazing and unique star in the usually quite boring world of fashion, and I’ve had the privilege of wearing her pieces a few times. Amanda’s also created a unique stage outfit for me, and I dream about working with her again. She has very special eye and idea of what purpose a garment should serve on the body. I also love her unashamed way of dressing the female body. There is no reason for anyone to feel ashamed. At least not in Amanda’s garments. Another photo after the jump.
