The Earnest Lovers perform a very downtrodden, understated kind of indie country. The Portland, Ore., group has just released an EP entitled Sing Sad Songs, and that title’s sentiment pervades through “No Songs Came By Today,“ on which Pete Krebs solemnly sings, “And though I know a thousand songs/I can’t find the one that explains me to you,” over a stripped-back Southern arrangement.
