Zac Holtzman: Mel Bergmann is a luthier living a bit north of L.A. He’s inspired by Bigsby, Mosrite and Emmons pedal-steel guitars. Mel was building guitars for Nokie Edwards (lead guitarist for the Ventures) for a while, but now is focusing on creating a guitar with endless sustain. Mel built my double-neck guitar “the Mastadong,” which is a combination of a Fender Jazzmaster and a traditional Cambodian instrument, the Chapai Dong Veng.
