Employees at the Martin guitar factory maintain that the scope of their career options was systematically decreased by virtue of work being available at Martin. Most of them believe their fate was sealed in their teen years, likely while they were drinking beer at the quarry or howling around town in packs tipping over garbage cans in alleys.

When the subject of being from New York comes up, Frank shrugs one shoulder and closes his eyes. It comes up regularly, mixed in with other general griping at the bars in town, including the Egg ‘n Nest on Main—the bar Frank frequents, if once in a blue moon can be called frequenting.
