Van Halen’s 1984 was the first record John Eriksson, better recognized as Hortlax Cobra, ever owned, so naturally he decided to remake it as an electronic album. It’s out December 12 via Ingrid. Naturally, we asked Eriksson to make us a mix tape. Check it out below.

Hortlax Cobra “Berlin”
As a simple concept, I decided to pick 10 of the songs that I have listened to the most during the last year. The song I have listened to the most is my own goddamn tune, “Berlin.” I ruined my ears mixing this song. Must have enhanced my tinnitus 10 times while trying to get the snare drums to sound OK. I hated this track for a long while, but when I watched this video I think I started to like the music again. Thanks you for that, Ella (the woman who made the video). Video
Klaus Weiss “Jumping Balls”
Great title, by the way. I actually danced to this song one night in Stockholm last summer, and I have never danced better. Must have listened to this track 100 times since then and now. I’m trying to get my seven-week-old son to like this as much as me. Video
Giorgio Moroder “Utopia”
I haven’t been a huge Moroder fan, but I really love this track. Minimalistic and funky. Heard it for the first time just a couple of month after I had finished the Night Shift album, and it made me wanna do another solo album in the future. (Which was a feeling I didn’t think I could feel at that time.) Video
Run DMT “Spruce Bpringsteen”
One of my favorite tunes. Love how the programmed (or sampled part?) is so perfectly intergraded with the performed parts. Can’t stop liking this song. Video
Spectral Display “There’s A Virus Going Round”
Oh my god, what a smooth song. Sounds a bit like the best songs by Toto but with a good production. Found this track after hearing M.I.A.’s nice version of their song “It Takes A Muscle.” Thanks for that, M.I.A. Video
Grace Jones “Pull Up To The Bumper”
A fantastic song and a fantastically dirty song. Very great to listen to while driving a car, of course. Love the production on it. Timeless. Video
Jimi Tenor “Sugardaddy”
Great production on this one, too. Love the swing groove! Video
Starlight Serenaders “Orange Wind”
Mysterious and awesome video. Released on our own label, Ingrid. Video
Lionel Richie “All Night Long”
Probably the song a have listened to the most during the last 10 years. (No joke.) This is a fucking classic. Gotta love it. Video
John Cage “String Quartet In 4 Parts”
Part one quietly flowing along, as a good-night song. I had to include this beauty. This piece is for everybody who thinks John Cage was a joke. He was a genius. R.I.P. Video
