In The News: Velvet Underground & Nico, Dirty Projectors, Replacements, Lemonheads And More

The 45th anniversary of the self-titled debut by the Velvet Underground & Nico is being celebrated by Universal Music and Castle Face Records, which have teamed up to create a tribute album, with the album’s iconic songs covered by artists such as Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, White Fence and more. Fans can download a song a day starting October 15, and The Velvet Underground & Nico By Castle Face And Friends will be released on vinyl November 5. On October 30, the original Velvet Underground album will be available in a limited-edition, six-CD super-deluxe boxed set … Dirty Projectors are set to release the About To Die EP (Domino) on November 6, right in the midst of the band’s worldwide fall tour … Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur and drummer Richard Stuverud have joined forces to form RNDM. The trio will issue debut album Acts (Monkeywrench/RED) on October 30, and a supporting North American tour will kick off November 2 … Color Me Obsessed is a documentary about the Replacements, told through the eyes of fans, friends and contemporaries. It’s due out as a two-disc DVD set on November 20 via MVD … In anticipation of the forthcoming new Lemonheads album, Fire Records is reissuing the band’s first three albums: Hate Your Friends, Creator and Lick … Merge Records has added William Tyler and Reigning Sound to its roster and will release albums by both artists in 2013 … Paul Kelly’s first album in five years, Spring And Fall, is set for a November 6 release on Gawd Aggie … Limping For A Generation and Animal Magic, the first two Blow Monkey albums, will be reissued as deluxe editions by Cherry Red on November 26 … The Orchestrion is mechanically controlled mini-orchestra commissioned and built by Pat Metheny, and in November 2010, cameras were rolling over a two-day period as Metheny operated the instrument. The subsequent film, The Orchestrion Project, will be available on DVD and Blu-ray via Eagle Rock on October 9.
