On latest single “Come Back Down,” Greg Laswell has combined forced with Sara Bareilles (of “Love Song” fame) to create a shining example of a great piano pop song. The track is a composition of opposites: a steady drum beat layered over delicate piano, Laswell’s booming voice mixing with Bareilles’ sugar-sweet croons. The effect is both poignant and inspiring. Not to mention that you can’t listen to the song without being struck by the blunt lyrics, “All of your wallowing isn’t becoming/You gotta take it on your own from here/It’s getting pathetic.” How’s that for music with bite? ”Come Back Down” is off Landline, out April 24 via Vanguard.
