Upon listening to of Montreal’s newest single, “Dour Percentage” off Paralytic Stalks (out via Polyvinyl on February 7), you may think you’re hearing an unreleased Queen track. Indeed, of Montreal made a name for itself with a constantly changing sound, from psych rock to neo-Beatles, and the band’s latest offering channels a more grandiose spirit, including a woodwind section and vocals mimicking the late Freddie Mercury. “Dour Percentage” is a melodically joyous track, though it maintains cryptic and thought-provoking lyrics throughout.
