Built Like Alaska is, slowly but surely, changing what many classify as indie rock, putting its owncaptivating spin on the genre itself. After band-member adjustments and other rough patches, the group finally put together and tweaked third album In Troubled Times, out November 8 via Future Farmer Recordings. Neil Jackson contemplates the ever evasive topic of love, comparing eras of romance to the modern age on first single, “Antique Love,” a comfortingly familiar yet refreshing tune. “John Henry” has an old Western feel, gradually building into a smooth nostalgic-sounding track with organs in the background to flush it all out.
