MP3 At 3PM: Aidan Moffat

Aidan Moffat was, and is, a miserable Scottish bastard best known for his membership in Arab Strap, the drunk, evil, foul-mouthed and generally more fun cousin of Glasgow mates Belle And Sebastian back in the Scottish-pop golden era. He also sang on a couple Mogwai songs. These days, he’s keeping busy writing (he contributed to short-story anthology The Year Of Open Doors), making movies (short doc Arab Strap Is Dead) and recording music (seven-inch Ten Short Songs For Modern Lovers is out in October). And just when you started to think Moffat was only capable of “short” stuff, he has completed a new full-length with Bill Wells, due out in the spring. In the mean time, enjoy the mp3 below. It’s a live, a cappella version of what Moffat calls “one of the most beautifully sad soul songs ever written.” It’s “I Don’t Care Anymore,” and it was originally recorded by Doris Duke.
