A shoulder injury and a bad experience at music school couldn’t deter Iowa native Dave Beck from pursuing his dream. After months of rehab and graduating from “normal” college, Beck moved to Brooklyn, started playing some open mics and is now set to self-release his debut LP, Stranger Homes, on October 26 with plans for a coast-to-coast tour. Premiering today on magnetmagazine.com is “Mississipi,” a sweet acoustic number featuring Beck’s charmingly boyish, Ben Gibbard-esque vocals.
