From The Desk Of OK Go’s Damian Kulash: Wikipedia’s Lists Of Legendary Creatures

OKGoThis past winter was an eventful time for OK Go, between the release of third album Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky, disputes with EMI over its YouTube videos and an eventual split with the label and the creation of Paradacute Records. But even after all the dust settled, the music is still stuck in our heads—because OK Go definitely still has it. Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky brings us little nuggets of unbridled optimism set to catchy pop beats with Damian Kulash’s funky falsetto soaring overhead—and, in typical OK Go fashion, some of the most awesome videos ever made. OK Go is taking time between dates on its worldwide tour supporting the LP in order to guest edit magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our Q&A with Kulash.

Creatures

Kulash: Dozens of hours of my life have been consumed reading and rereading these two lists: Wikipedia’s List Of Legendary Creatures and the detailed subset, the List Of Legendary Creatures From Japan. They’re like my family now, the ceiling-licking spirit, the horse’s leg that hangs from trees and kicks passersby, and the man with an eyeball for an anus. The full list recently got subdivided alphabetically, which I suppose makes it more navigable, but I kind of preferred the long whopper of a list. Hours of fun with almost no clicking.

I have several books on mystical, mythical and legendary creatures, though I’m more into the Celtic traditions. If I had to guess, I’d say Damian’s Gancanagh.

Hell yes he is. I dunno where he came from. I was crazy some months ago and ran into his videos in the middle of a psychotic episode somehow and I’ve had an obsession problem since. Just when I hated all men and thought they all sucked and whatever ..I could careless about dudes…along came him. Wow-ness. He’s totally perfect huh?? I’ve tried to escape this new unbridled lust issue but it doesn’t seem to be going away. I can’t remember the last time I swooned over a guy. I try not to think his hotness and then it just comes rushing back. This has completely ruined my dating and sex life and now I’m trying to figure out exactly how I’m going to get back on the horse. No man is ever going to compare, I wish I never ran into his videos. I get OCD about randomness and things but never about guys – he’s just dope..

I think it would be good marketing if the guys from OK Go started selling shirts they wore in their website store. Do you realize how much money they could be making?? I dunno whose running the show over there, but clearly they aren’t thinking straight. I’d pay big bucks for a shirt Damian wore, I’d wear it to bed every night for the rest of my life. Possibly.. because I’m officially a psycho now… but really- isn’t it a good idea?
