Film At 11: HEALTH

L.A. quartet HEALTH is increasingly revealing a rich set of songwriting chops and a pluralistic cinematic vision to match. The new video for “USA Boys,” the band’s only new track on an otherwise remix-heavy DISCO2, displaces the harsh, gory aesthetic of “We Are Water” in favor of a throbbing, seductive treatment that at times feels like an unrated director’s cut of one of the various jeans or fragrance commercials marketed to hipsters over the last few years. Beautiful, mysterious young folks run and dance freely in a forgotten industrial complex, taking drugs and ending it all with a scene of coital ecstasy that’s at least as striking as the band’s more violent appreciations. Curiously, YouTube opted to remove “USA Boys” due to its racy content despite continuing to host the much more graphic “We Are Water,” perhaps giving you extra incentive to watch it below. DISCO2, which HEALTH is now on tour in support of, arrives June 22 on Lovepump United.
