Film At 11: White Hinterland

In the Michaela Čopikova-directed video for White Hinterland‘s “Amsterdam,” animated fox/human hybrids fall for one another with the benevolent assistance of rain and its cultivating power. Adhering to the melancholy, spartan groove of the song’s largely drum-and-vocal composition, the video illustrates a potent story of unlikely love, absent context in any exact sense. The concept works elegantly, honoring the spirit of singer Casey Deinel’s simple, wondering tale without adapting “Amsterdam” too literally, inviting us into a spacious, enchanting world to create our own meaning within a shared human experience. White Hinterland is currently touring North America and Europe in support of Kairos, which recently hit shelves courtesy of Dead Oceans.
