Impeccable post-pop with a sophisticated smidge of glam, the Secret History serves up melodrama for the young at heart. “Johnny Anorak,” from The World That Never Was (Le Grand Magistery; out March 22), is seeped in the frustrations of a retro adolescence. Reviving the vocal glory of ’60s girl groups, “Johnny Anorak” kick-starts with rousing cheers, claps and crisp guitar. Dreamy synth and forthright chords transform the clean-cut diction of vocalists Lisa Ronson and Erin Dermody into that of true femme fatales. Tastefully nostalgic.
