MP3 At 3PM: Chicago Underground Duo

Cornet player Rob Mazurek and drummer Chad Taylor comprise the Chicago Underground Duo, and they just returned after a four-year hiatus with fifth album Boca Negra (Thrill Jockey). Its title (meaning “black mouth”) is a term coined in the Tenerife Canary Islands, evoking both the image of the Mount Tiede volcano and the concept of an endless intake of information. This is fitting, since the album borrows from many different styles and includes both composition and improvisation. Download “Spy On The Floor” below.
