The Ramones have probably surpassed the Beatles as the most imitated band on the planet. Mean Jeans began as a tribute to Ramones ripoff bands, but the Portland, Ore., outfit’s debut album, Are You Serious? (Dirtnap), sounds like these guys sneaked into Hollywood Forever Cemetery and smoked the ashes of Johnny and Dee Dee. A million bands go for this formula and fail, but Mean Jeans seem to have been injecting and snorting the formula for years. Download lead track “Born On A Saturday Night” below.

The world is going crazy and it is too easy to get too serious about things. Mean Jeans are spewing creativity and honesty and reminding us to not take this world so seriously. I know their next CD will be pure genius as these guys are in the zone.
