Husband and wife Clarque and Caroline Blomquist are Waumiss. They recorded their self-titled debut LP (on Little Ramona) with a Tascan 488 cassette portastudio and a primitive Roland MS-1 sampler, pressing the vinyl themselves using a credit card acquired online, but you’d never have guessed it from listening to it. Just check out “Gato Spectral,” which drifts in, as if from outer space, with unearthly vocals. The CD issue of Waumiss (Odessa) came out just a few weeks ago, expanding the LP version with some remixes by Mike Jorgensen (Wilco), Eric Morrison (Home), Ajay Saggar (Bent Mustache) and PFFR.
