The Grates‘ effervescent 2006 album, Gravity Won’t Get You High, was so good, it got the band shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. They sound like a dance-y take on the poppier, upbeat songs of Sleater-Kinney or the Fastbacks: very catchy, cute and propulsive. The spunky Brisbane group is about an iPhone commercial away from taking over the Western Hemisphere with latest album, Teeth Lost, Hearts Won.
