Film At 11: The Clean
After an eight-year hiatus, the Clean released its fifth studio album in September. The fantastic Mister Pop (Merge) was both a welcome return-to-form and a continued foray into its unique brand of experimental, eclectic rock. After all these years, the New Zealand band is still painfully good. Why the "Dunedin sound" didn't explode Dunedin like "grunge" did Seattle in 1991 the world may never know. The first single from Mister Pop, "In The Dreamlife You Need A Rubber Soul," is full of the group's trademark jangly hooks and heartsick resilience. The video was filmed by Clean drummer Hamish Kilgour and directed by Theo Angell.
