Roman Candle is a trio from Chapel Hill, N.C., comprised of brothers Skip and Logan Matheny and Skip’s wife, Timshel. The band has gained quite the following for its stunning live performances, playing shows with the likes of the Indigo Girls, Rufus Wainwright, the Avett Brothers, Aimee Mann, the Whigs, Patti Smith and Birdmonster. Roman Candle’s latest album, Oh Tall Tree In The Ear (Carnival), was written mostly in a rural section of England, but it still maintains the organic texture of its Southern roots with some beautifully crafted lyrics, particularly on “They Say,” which you can download below.
