Want a free Aimee Mann mp3? Of course you do. Visit her digital store to download “The Engine Driver,” backed by members of the Decemberists. (Or download it below.) Given that it is a store, for-purchase tunes are also available; all of them are in mp3 or lossless FLAC formats, with a lower-quality mp3 available at a discount. Hey, times are tough. Mann’s fourth-annual Christmas shows will be at L.A.’s Largo club on December 13 and 14. Download “The Engine Driver” … Fan of the Rakes? Well, that sucks for you, as the band announced it’s broken up, effectively immediately. U.S. and U.K. tours were obviously canceled. The quartet’s third, and final, LP, Klang, is available on iTunes October 27. Download “The Light From Your Mac” … Shooter Jennings and David Lowery make guest appearances on Ike Reilly’s Hard Luck Stories (Rock Ridge), out November 24 … Peace And Love, singer/songwriter Juliana Hatfield‘s new effort, is scheduled for February 16 on her Ye Olde Records imprint. Hatfield produced and engineered the album and played every instrument … Speaking of singer/songwriters (how’s that for a segue?), the justly acclaimed Freedy Johnston returns January 12 with Rain In The City (Bar/None). Recorded in Nashville, it’s his first LP since 2001’s Right Between The Promises … New York City’s Yeasayer’s second outing, Odd Blood (Secret Canadian), is out February 9. The band is playing NYC’s Guggenheim Museum (designed by Art Vandelay) on October 30 … Speaking of New York City (see what we did there?), kosher rapper Matisyahu is performing in the city during the eight nights of Hanukkah beginning December 10. Matisyahu is splitting the shows between two venues, Webster Hall and the Music Hall of Williamsburg, and his opening acts include Glitch Mob, Kid Koala and Travis McCoy (Gym Class Heroes) … In This Light And On This Evening (Fader), Editors’ third record, is out January 19. The follow-up to 2007’s platinum-selling An End Has A Start was produced by Mark “Flood” Ellis (U2, Sigur Rós, Depeche Mode). Watch the video for the LP’s “Papillon” … Columbia Records has released Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band‘s “Wrecking Ball” exclusively on iTunes. The single includes a video shot during their shows at Giants Stadium … Speaking of New Jersey (yeah, we know), Bon Jovi is kicking off a world tour, but we decided halfway through this sentence that the details aren’t important. We give writing a bad name.

Please stop trying to give those of us who stopped reading Pitchfork long ago because of wiseacre remarks such as this a reason to stop reading this website as well. We used to count on the magazine for good-quality writing on bands we actually cared about. Now that we don’t have that (the magazine), the least you could do is not steer this plane straight into the ground too. Thanks.
