MP3 At 3PM: Doug Gillard

Four years is way too long to wait for new music from a guy as talented as Doug Gillard, so we welcome Call From Restricted (on his own 347 Records), the former Guided By Voices guitarist’s follow-up to 2005’s excellent Salamander. (The LP’s official release date is tomorrow, but it’s now available at his website and iTunes.) Restricted’s acoustic-driven “Time Is Nigh” finds Gillard sounding like a late-'60s British folkie (maybe even a little Pollard-like, melody-wise), offering a reassuring “We’re OK” refrain and a jangly, rocking coda.
