At two years shy of 50, Daniel Johnston is releasing his first new album in six years, Is And Always Was (Eternal Yip Eye). With help from producer and multi-instrumentalist Jason Falkner (Beck, Air, Jellyfish), Johnston’s whimsical, Beatles-inspired folk powers up from lo-fi living-room recordings to a clean-yet-cacophonic rock. Just check out “Freedom,” which you can download below; Johnston sings his common themes of boredom, death, love and pop culture, reminding us all to “let the force be with you.”
