MP3 At 3PM: Palms (Josh Dibb Animal Collective Remix)

The original "Boundary Waters," a track toward the end of
Palms' debut album,
It's Midnight In Honolulu, is an eerie, almost sinister piece, complete with siren samples. However, when left to the devices of Josh Dibb (better known as
Animal Collective's Deakin), "Boundary Waters" is taken out to pasture, relocated from the Palms' residence in the dark belly of a robot and plopped squarely into the hazy, lazy meadow that AC usually inhabits. (Think "Bees" off of the Collective's
Feels.) Not satisfied? No problem. "Boundary Waters" was apparently so ripe for remixing that it was done three more times: by Gavin Russom (DFA Records), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter, Atlas Sound) and Matt Tong (Block Party). All four remixes, plus the original, are available on the
Boundary Waters Remixed EP (Rare Book Room), which came out last week.
