Let’s say this: “Good Friends, Bad Habits” is not much of a departure from an Owen song like “The Sad Waltzes Of Pietro Crespi” or whatever else from 2006’s At Home With Owen. Now a bad metaphor: Pretend that sound is like a decent whiskey. With “Good Friends, Bad Habits,” add some synthesizer and electric guitar in a way that doesn’t overpower the basic songwriting and it’s like a little water to fill it out—or bring out the flavor of this figurative whiskey. New Leaves (Polyvinyl) will be released on September 22.
