You forgot about Ride Into The Sun (Another View version). It’s so underrated you probably don’t know it exists. And you should. And everybody should, ’cause it’s a bloody masterpiece.

So, somehow “Waiting For The Man” is overrated but “All Tomorrow’s Parties” isn’t? Everything they did with Nico is unlistenable.

I´am 100% agree wih Hey Mr Rain! This is a all time favorite & breathtaker. The “reunion-versions” i know are incredible.
The rest is still ok what you wrote but “sweet nuthin” is underrated i think. It´s a beautyful Song with top 10 potential. But anyway…its a matter of taste.

I wouldn’t say “I’m waiting for my man” is overrated ; everything is like you describe, good to imagine it could be a tourist point of view, going uptown.

I did it myself as a lost Frenchman in Bronx, having this song in my ears.

“Femme fatale” is a great song with fantastic emotional lyrics.
I would say “there she goes again” is also underrated as one of my personal favorites of the banana album

I know you have space to fill and arguments to make to prove your points, but calling “I’m Waiting For the Man” unbelievable is silly. I would like to know what revisionist PC fantasyland you live in where being on the wrong side of the tracks doesn’t invite sideways glances and comments regardless of race.

If you call a song overrated, you’re saying that too many people think too highly of it. But not too many people have ever even heard the VU, let alone like them. So I wouldn’t say that any VU song is overrated. Overplayed, perhaps (“Heroin”), or not that great (“Who Loves the Sun”), but not overrated.

These are alot more exiting when death threats are involved… It’s hard to overrate anything in their canon, but yeah, I wince when I hear I’ll Be Your Mirror. Foggy Notion is a helluva lot of fun…

Black Angel never did it for me. It is weird but not that good. I like the rest of the songs on the underrated list though. I would think any music associated with High Fidelity would suck (John Cusack dancing to Sexual Healing is vomit inducing) so for that alone I’d move Oh! Sweet Nuthin to the underrated list since it is such a pretty song. I’m not a Grateful Dead fan, but it sounds like the Dead at their best. Word of warning from someone who learned the hard way: don’t sing Pale Blue Eyes at karaoke. People will want to kill you. It’s very grating.

I’m glad Black Angel got its due, one of the best, especially the last verse- I che che, che che ka tak koh, choose to choose. Waiting for the Man is still one of my favorite and one of my favorite local bands used to cover it 25 years ago, as well as my other favorite- Heroin, I don’t think anyone has captured a heroin trip in a song like VU. Two songs left off the list that I used to put on to get people dancing are- Train Round the Bend and I Can’t Stand It, but I guess that is the purpose of this kind of article- to get a discussion going.
