While Sweet Tea might be the name on the label, this band is really a side project from up-and-comers Heartless Bastards, with some help from the Black Angels’ Alex Maas. Taking on classic country with a modern-rock pedigree, Sweet Tea is, like its namesake, perfect for the July heat. The delicate duet between Maas and Bastards frontwoman Erika Wennerstrom makes this cover of Tim Hardin’s “If I Were A Carpenter” anything but heartless. Heartless Bastards are currently touring nationwide, opening for indie heavyweights like Jenny Lewis and the Decemberists, but if you’re lucky, you might catch Maas helping them bring a little twang to their set.
