Go ahead, try to say this band’s name; we’ll wait. For those unfamiliar with UUVVWWZ, the stream of letters may turn you away, but give it a chance. It’s pronounced “double ‘U,’ double ‘V,’ double ‘W,’ ‘Z’”; this fun-loving quartet’s self-titled debut (on Saddle Creek) drops July 7. Formed in Lincoln, Neb., in 2007, the band is often compared to Deerhoof, Captain Beefheart and Bow Wow Wow. Teal Gardner, lead singer of UUVVWWZ, explains to MAGNET, “Music is a unifier … a personal exploration intensified within a song!” You just can’t argue with that.
